Hello - just wondering if it's ok to route cable tucked into the gap between plasterboards / maybe dropping behind board..

I've a single 1.5mm T&E lighting cable I need to run. I'm thinking of running it without conduit as per the blue dotted line in the picture.

The cable will fit nicely between the boards and will stick to safe zones. The wall will be skimmed later.

Is this ok? Cheers

That's a corner on the left - just realised it's not obvious from the picture

There are zones in the areas you mark that are 150mm wide where you can run cables.

Better though, would be to hide the cable in the cavity of the stud wall.

Take off the plasterboard and drill the timbers where necessary then thread the cable through.

The corners and the top of the wall are permitted zones but, personally, i try to avoid those. My preference is 1/ verticals and 2/ horizontals.
As Securespark says tgere is something to commend cavities were possible then the only worry is holes in noggins, wherever you put cables someone will try to nail them even if they are in the zones.

Thanks for the advice - it's definitely appreciated.

I started routing the cable thinking I might get to the stud wall (offshoot wall on the left) and then look at pulling the panel off / routing through stud.

The cable however slipped nicely behind the plasterboard and rested on the dabs at the back - so definitely in the safe zones (and no worries about plaster damaging it).

I therefore did the same down the corner - tucking it just behind the board again.

Agree - not as nice as a void or a horizontal/vertical but I'm ok with it.
