Hi

My Nephew has a rover 400 on a 1999 plate. He's recently driven across a massive pothole and said that he had a a big thud. He thought that he might have damaged the suspension but has noticed that he's been getting some fibre/material coming out of the exhaust - is this likely to be damage to the catalytic converter? He also reckons that it's lost power!

unlikley its the cat...they are honeycombed.
sounds like one of the silencers is breaking up internally. Have a look and see if you can see any damage to a silencer. Replacing the damaged one should cure the lack of power.

;)

I think it could well be the cat - but at least look under the car to see which part of the exhaust system has actually been clouted.
John :)
