I have a v6 rover 75, one of the cambelts has worn though the side cover thus making the car stop. this was at very load speed (less than 10 mph)
Can anyone advise me as to the chances of the valves being bent, and any advise on replacing the belts,, thanks

a few options really:

1) whip off valve cover, turn camshaft by hand and make sure all the valves are opening and closing fully, if they are chuck a new belt on and hope.
2) Take the head off and check for damage properly
3) Scrappy or ebay for another engine

if (1) seems OK i would also recommend a compression test.

I've had the "valves like wilting mushrooms" experience too.

p.s. what does "cambelt has worn though the side cover" mean? did the cambelt break, or come off, or go loose?
