Our local council is giving advice on organising street parties. Lots of info on H&S, insurance, first aid, cooking meats, do's and don'ts etc. Seems like a right palaver .... and that's not including the street closure application and consultation forms with essential questions such as
What arrangements have been made for communications between event organisers? (Radio/Mobile phone)
What arrangements have been made for waste disposal?
Will you be holding a raffle or tombola?
Will you be having a BBQ?
Will there be music or other sound broadcast
Is any food or drink being served at the event
(Duh, its a party!)
I can just see some jobsworth rubbing his hands with glee when he gets to refuse the party or impose all the "necessary" rules
I remember the 1977 Jubilee when the people in our street just got their own tables and chairs out, no-one bothered to drive up the road, someone put his speakers out, and everyone just brought whatever food they had out, everyone chatted, no-one moaned, and everyone had a good time - and then everyone packed up and cleared up. No fuss no bother, no organisation
I can't see that happening in April for some reason
I'll watch the wedding and toast the couple ... even though I think Kate would be much happier with me rather than some young rich prince
