Why is it so hard to get rum and raisin ice cream these days? you used to be able to get it in big tubs but i've only seen it recently from ben and jerrys in one of those silly little pots, It used to be so popular, unless it's due to one of those stupid EEC rulings about names of things? yet ben and jerrys get away with it still?Does anyone know an outlet for the litre tubs?

Last time I saw it was abroad, France I think. I didn't know about Ben & Jerry's doing it but their ice-cream is really nice so it might be worth buying that! I prefer Carte d'Or Fruit & Fresh but I'm having to try and stop myself from buying it as I'm in danger of getting fat...

I have tried the ben and jerry's as i was desperate to relive the days of old  but it didn't have that original taste that you used to be able to buy, I just wonder why it has disappeared off the shelfs? it was in such abundance before that it must have been in the TOP TEN flavours, can public taste change so quickly that it's not worth making anymore?

Freeze-churn in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer's directions. Alternatively, transfer to a rigid freezer-proof plastic box and freeze until set.
If you put it in the freezer to set, you have to take it out every half hour or so, and give it a good old beating. Otherwise you end up with ice crystals.

You can also put it into a "bain marrie" type setup (one bowl inside another), with ice (mixed with salt) in the outer. That way you can do the whole thing on your worktop. (The salt causes the ice to melt and reduces the temperature.)[/quote]

Alternatively you can buy an icecream machine. This consists of a bowl that you pre-freeze, with a mixer type attachment.

You make up your recipe, put that in the frozen bowl and then leave it with the mixer in, whirring away, for however long it takes.

My mum has one, it makes great icecream.

I am wondering if possibly the old rum was a flavouring, but the B&J is real, or vice versa. I can't imagine it is an alcohol in food thing as you can get Baileys flavour Haaaaaaaaagen Daz.

It could be a euro thing, perhaps it is only legally rum if it comes from an ex-French caribbean colony... I'm off to eat a Bakewell tart made NOT in Bakewell, and some Cumberland sausages from Wiltshire... That'll show 'em

NB already mentioned the machine... aha.

Guess what I've seen down the local supermarket Ken!

The Rolls Royce of Rum & Raisin!!!

In pursuit of Ice Cream!!!
Excuse the poor picture quality, taken with phone...

Excuse for hijacking this post, I'll separate it if necc, but how do you transfer pics from your phone to the PC? I have a nokia 7250i, but no data cable - do you need one, or can you send it to some number to convert it to email?

Too late pour moi... Let's just say when I worked in a dairy, my nickname was, simply, Bat Fastard!

You're not hi-jacking this post, as long as the piccys are of R & R ice cream....

According to the CPW, you can enter an e-mail address into the phone and send them direct to your in-box.

Hi Bob,
no prob, you'll have to set up an email account by your service provider.

Then I just email myself and either upload onto my personal site or use an image hosting site.

Who is your service provider?

Also, lost all track of phone models, presumably you have WAP? (if so, has it been set up?)

Has been quite handy in the past being able to email customers pictures when they are not local etc.

Also, I have put a page on my website that has links to pictures for use as desktops on wifeys & my mobiles:

Must be the manufacturers read this forum ;)
