Good evening all

I have just moved into our new house built 1930's and have found that some kind soul has concreted over the main stop cock. I need to replace it as I am moving some pipes out of the concrete floor as they look like they have no denso or anything on them and don't want to chance it.

I have tried to shut off the mains in the road but my toby key is too short. I have lifted the floor and have found the mains coming into the property underneath the stairs, I have run a new 15mm mains in to a stop cock and now have the new pipe side by side with the old still live incomer.

I have used a rems machine for all the fittings and have borrowed a freeze master machine which I hope to use to freeze the 15mm copper incomer

What I would like advice on is whether the freezing machine will freeze a live main and if so how long does it need to be left on the pipe for. I intend to fit a lever valve onto the pipe and then connect up my new mains to it. Should I use Jet blue to lubricate the olives ?

Many thanks in advance.

i useally leave on about 20 mins + and make sure you get not water flow while freezing ie toilet flushed or tap turned on.

should have some instructions in the lid on how to prepare the clamps for best results.

what's the incomer made of? as it's old it may be an imperial size, so you may need adapters, 3/4 olives or whatever etc. obviously if it's lead, then no worries.

not being a smart arsh here, but have you considered buying a longer stop key?

Thanks for that, I have used the machine before luckily the pipe is bare copper and I will leave all taps off and will use the transfer cream.

many thanks

The incomer is 15mm copper or could be imperial

I think I can still use 15mm compression on imperial or am I wrong ?

My stop cock key is over a meter long and still doesn't reach

you can always test by a tap first before cutting the pipe.
if you have the fitting ready you can whack it on if the plug starts to go.

let us know if you get soaked
