Hi everyone,
Hope someone can help - this might be a bit of an unusual one!

Under my kitchen cupboards, I currently have a small fluorescent strip light. The enclosure shows Lite Tech WL2001-6W T5 220-240V~50Hz G5 (first photo below).

Powering the enclosure is a female 2 socket plug (third photo below), which in turn is wired back to what looks like a transformer - it's a round, white box with numbers in circles around the outside (second photo below). It has twin core cable running into it.

Is there any way of using this setup to power an LED strip such as this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0969Q2MB4?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

The Govee strip does come with a 'normal' plug but it'd be ideal to power the strip via the existing supply. The output from the plug is marked as 24.0V 0.5A 12.0W and the lead terminates in a single pin (fourth photo below).

Apologies if this is a daft question - any help gratefully received!

It is just a junction box.

Not really. You will need an ordinary socket connected to the supply cable

I had the same problem I simply fitted a socket 1704837064619.png normally you can't see it, you need to be on ones knees to see the socket is there, I am using a Lidi strip light smart colour changing so no need to switch on/off I simply say hey google turn on kitchen lights.

I did not use the sticky back but some cable cleats to hold the strip in place, so will not fall down. Not the best job, but in keeping with my near enough engineering philosophy. In the living room same lights do the centre display case, and TCP lights either side. 20230227_170703_1.jpgand in this case the power supplies went on top, and then ornaments in front of them.

As said the white round box is just a junction box, the numbers actually relate to the lid position and whether you want 2,3 or4 cable eentry exits round the circumference. Do you know where the cables that feed the junction box come from ie perhaps they come from the top and down behind the cupboard. If that is the case you might be able to pull them out and fit a socket on top of the unit rather than below.

Thanks very much for the replies, everyone. @ericmark - yours seems very much the way forward! Did you install the socket yourself?

@EFLImpudence and @Sureitsoff? thank you for the clarity over the junction box. The cables come through the wall at below-cabinet level - albeit I'm not sure where from because the other side of the wall is the garage! :)

Yes I did fit the socket myself, but I have worked as an electrician for some 50 plus years. I did not like the idea of replacing the junction box with a socket, as my wife is likely to use it for other things, but where it is, not visible standing at the counter, the problem as I saw it was you don't turn on counter lamps before starting what ever you are doing, but then find as the time goes on you want more light, by this time hands covered with what ever is going to be cooked, so either wanted them on with main lights, or with some easy clean switch. The Lidi smart lights worked with Nest Mini so even better, voice commands.
