Hi,

Changed old clock style timer (seperate HW/CH) for a RWB9 and thought I'd copied the wiring without any issues, all seemed to work !

This was until the warmer weather, when we only wanted the HW and not the CH on. Programmer is not firing boiler or pump. I only get HW if I put the CH as well.

The back plate does not have a wire connected to terminal 1.

Please help, if I leave as is, we either sweat or if I turn off all the rads the boiler locks out on overheat!

Thanks in advance

TWgas,

I'm sorry, I'm not sure. I do have what I think are valves. One connected to pipe work going to the HW cylinder, and the other on pipe work going elsewhere, presumably CH.

There is a Danfoss pump near by, but this appears only to work when the the CH is on. If I just set HW to on, there's some wering noise from the the valve? but no pump.

Would a picture be of more help ?

Regards

Graham

try turning on ch then operate the manual lever on hw valve, (the one with pipe going to cylinder) and see if heat goes through pipe..

pic may help,

twgas,

Tried to do that, but valve has been positioned too close to an elbow to allow operation of the lever. It wil only go half way before hitting the pipe work! It is currently set to auto.

I'm sure the problem is with the way I've wired (not wired) the programmer, as the system worked fine before I changed it. (There's a lesson there!)

If someone could tell me how the programmer should be wired to the salamander box that might help ?

If feel the programmer is not speaking to the pump or the boiler when set to HW.

I have used four wires in the back of the programmer (excluding the live and nuetral). One attached to neutral, one on 2, 3, & 4

I'm thinking at least two of these must be right as the CH turns on and off. Should there be something connected to pole 1, as this is HW off? 4 is marked HW on.

Help!!!

Check the wiring diagram connections on the back of programmer, terminal 1 is "on" not "off", the switch connections shown on the back of programmer cross over look closely, i think 1 is hw on and 4 is hw off.

Waterworks,

I've checked the instructions and the terminals are as follows;

1 = HW off
2 = CH off
3 = HW on
4 = CH on

Graham

Yes your right i must have worked too hard today, try moving the wire frm terminal 2 to terminal 1.

Waterworks,

Tried moving wire from 2 to 1, but it didn't make any difference.

Should I have a wire attached to all four terminals ?

The cable I'm using has five wires, an earth then wires numbered 1-4 Should I be using cable with more wires ?

Should I run in a seperate neutral to free up one of the wires ?

Would really need to know what controls you have, as you are only saying which boiler you have.

For instance if you have a 3 port zone valve to control heating and hot water, you would be using hot water on and hot water off terminals 1 & 3
but only heating on terminal.

I have up-loaded a photo into my album of the controls I have got. Are you able to tell what they are, and advise ?

Graham

Looking at your photo I can see two motorized valves. This means you have an S-plan system This is the wiring diagram:

What colours are your four wires?

You will see from the wiring diagram that the only connectins to the programmer (apart from L and N) are to the HW ON and CH ON terminals. The two OFF terminals are not used. The HW ON wire should connect to the thermostat on the side of the cylinder and the CH ON wire to the wall thermostat.

That leaves two wires to be located. Can you identify what these two wires connect to at the other end? If the four wires are in two separate cables it should be easier to identify.

Thanks for your help. I have 5 wires in one cable.

1. Attached to earth
2. Attached to neutral
3. connected to terminal 2
4. connected to terminal 3
5. connected to terminal 4

I do not have a room stat, so where does "CH on" connect to ?

You have told us already where the wires are connected at the RWB9; it's the other end of each wire I need to know! Easiest if you identify them by colour; e.g. Yellow: Terminal 1 to ?. Got the idea ;)

It might help if you could take the lid of the box on the wall, take a pic of the wiring and post it.

If there is no room thermostat, there is no way of controlling the motorized valve in the CH circuit! (That's the valve at the bottom of your pic)

1. How do you control the temperature in the house?
2. Do you have a cylinder thermostat

Ok have posted picture of the box. All wires are black, but they are numbered 1-4.

The white cable coming in from the right is the cylinder stat. Of the two grey ones, one is from the controller, and the other goes to the boiler.

Control house temp using rad stats, but I'm considering a room stat.
