I was wondering if stainless steel self tapping screws were any good for
Fixing to standard brick?or a alternative screw but it must not rust or decay
Over time,that's why I thought of s/steel.[/b]
Do you mean for screwing directly into the pre-drilled brick or screwing into a plastic plug inserted into the brick.
Self tappers will not screw directly into pre-drilled brickwork as their thread is too fine. Well it will go in but its holding strength will be minimal.
Grade A4 is the marine grade which will never rust. Use A4 in shower enclosures. Grade A2 is slightly inferior (and cheaper) but good enough for 90% of household uses.
Bear in mind that cheap stainless screws can shear off at much lower torques than their equivalent high tensile steel versions so you may need a slightly larger pilot hole.
