I used a firm called Turbotechnics to rebuild a turbo for an Escort RS a few years ago - they were excellent and did a first class job.
Its very unlikely that you need to clean out your sump unless the oil was ridiculously overdue for a change...although regular oil changes with the correct grade of lube is good for turbo life.
John :)

I know its a late reply but, the reason for the sump drop John is the pcv/vac hoses perish/degrade on these Saab 9-5s and leave deposits in the sump clogging up the strainer, now we all know turbo's need a healthy supply of oil, but if the strainer is blocked it aint gonna happen.
Ask me how i know? ;) I'm on my second 9-5 now.

I appreciate that gem, mate - thanks ;)
These are a Vauxhall engine, aren't they? I'm to fit an alternator to an 'X' reg model this week, but access sure looks tight!

The later engines were GM sorced yes, i'm unsure about alternator replacement but removing wheel and wheelarch liner springs to mind, also tensioner needs pushed to one side and locked in place with a steel pin of some discription to aid belt removal. Also seem to remember alternator needs to be turned so the pulley is facing down, its then lifted out the top moving various lines/pipes out the way. Sorry cant be more helpfull John.
This link may help, remember its a yank talkin' so things will be back to front, its also for a 9-5 which i have, not sure what you're workin' on John. Top removal seems favorite. ;)
