Value your thoughts, gas fire just removed and feed terminated as seen in the image. Want to plaster the insides and hoping to safely push back the gas pipe closer to the floor or back wall. Only thought I have is to use a flexible spring, is this reasonable to undertake? Better options? Many thanks

1. You won't get an external bending spring over that soldered stop end, and obviously you can't use an internal spring.
2. A cross thread say's, you should have the pipe terminated as close to the main gas carcase for the property as possible.
3. Even if it were bent using benders, you should get it's integrity checked by a gas safe registered engineer.

Ok, and thanks, sadly the gas engineer couldnt track the pipe back further so this was the best he was able to do.

I can't see from the photo whether the pipe is capped at this point, so gas is still pressurising it, or whether the gas has been sealed off somewhere further back, so this is just an empty pipe.
If the latter you could cut off the end to get a bending spring in place and then manipulate it as you wish.
If the former it's not really safe to do ANY manipulation of the pipe

Gas is still pressurising the sealed end. I think I've arrived at the decision to leave it alone and debating whether to seal up the full front and do away with the idea of still having a recessed empty fireplace or just add a small low box to hide the gas pipe amd plaster the remainder. Will also be adding ventilation path too.

Thanks everyone for the solid advice amd thoughts
