Salus RT500BC Thermostat problem.

Hi , I have a Salus RT500BC Thermostat with RF Boiler control . The problem is that the digital display on the thermostat has faded and disappeared altogether and so I cannot put my central heating on at all. I have changed the batteries and pressed the reset button but nothing comes to life on the display. It is only 3 years old. Has anybody experienced this before ? Do I have to buy a new one to replace it ? I have seen that they are available on Ebay for varying prices . Positive comments gratefully received . Thanks.
