Going to start tiling a small fl;oor area. the surface is uneven. can I lay my floor tile on the highest point, bedded into a 1 inch layer of ordinary sand and cement and leave it there to set and then level the remaining areas (which are out by 1 inch) using sand and cement, setting the tiles in and leaving them to set? Will this work or do I HAVE TO level the floor 1st and use normal tile adhesive.

Thx.

yes you can lay on a bed of sharp sand and cement but don't mix it sloppy.

you need to lay the mortar like screed, just slightly wetter, then work the fat to the top. you can then lay the tiles on the fat. grout with regular bagged mix.

it is advisable to set out the tiles and cuts before laying down any mix, then lay furthest from the door. ;)

And the tiles will stick?? So I don't have to use tile adhesive at all? A friend told me today but wanted to double check here. he said leave the tile to set on the wet mortar and when the mortar dries the tile will stick to it. it will work?

Thx.

yes it will work, after all most bagged mixes are cement based with a few tricks added.

just don't skimp on the cement. ;)
