I have a scantronic alarm installed in the 1980s. Hasn’t been service for 20 odd years. I changed the battery in the alarm panel maybe in 2000, can’t quite remember.

System has been fine til now although the external sounder battery is probably dead.

Anyway the internal sounder went off for no reason when the alarm was not armed, 3am in the morning which scared me a little. I managed to put in the code to switch it off but I can’t seem to reset the alarm panel and it’s displaying a fault mode.

1. What does the bf code mean as per the image?
2. Can these alarms still be serviced and if so what would that entail?
3. Any recommendation as to whether this alarm should be upgraded or kept as is? It’s my elderly mother’s house, 5 wired PIRs and 1 door sensor.

Thanks.

If it’s still working ok leave it , the most common issue with these are the keypad buttons , if they are ok then just fit a new battery

I know if I open the battery cover / control panel it will trigger off the alarm. How would I get the engineers code as I did it once but haven’t written it down?

Also are there engineers who still service this old alarm? What would it cost to change the battery and have it tested? Based in Colindale NW London.

Open panel , alarm goes off internally , put in your code to stop it , replace battery ,close lid , enter code to reset alarm all done
