Scarf Repair?

I have just received a surveyors report on a proposed house purchase which states:

There is a front door canopy that has a mono-pitched roof covered with interlocking
concrete tiles on a timber frame with uPVC cladding and soffit and a lead flashing
at the junction with the front elevation. Decay was noted to the timber structure
and scarf repairs will be required along with complete redecoration.

What does a scarf repair mean to a layman?

It is where you replace a section of timber and it is scarfed into the original piece.
