Age catching up ?

...Schumacher suffered a sizeable accident during a German superbike test at Cartagena in Spain on February 11 - which forced him to abandon entering motorcycle races. It had been hoped that the injuries he suffered in that crash would not impact on his F1 return, but medical examinations have indicated that problems remain.
"The consequences of the injuries caused by the bike-accident in February, fractures in the area of head and neck, unfortunately have turned out to be still too severe," added Schumacher...

How close was that to end game?

What was he doing playing around on a superbike anyway?
Hardly his area of skill.
Guess he feels the need.

I dislike the Guy, he is likely to rate in the top 10 ever in his chosen sport. Yet he is so unsure about his ability he feels the need to cheat.
That's no world class sportman or a moral person.

Wrong. He is an accomplished rider.

I never took to him as a person either, but to deny his skill and put it all down to cheating is ridiculous.

I'm gutted he won't be racing it would have made the next GP unmissable.

I don't deny he has ability.
It was he who thought the need to cheat,
because he did not feel confident of his own skills.
At the same time ruining the chance of fairer minded competitors and endangering lives.

July 10, 1994 - Michael Schumacher overtakes Damon Hill illegally on the parade lap on the British Grand Prix, and as a result was given a five-second penalty. After initially ignoring the penalty, race control gave him the black flag, before eventually coming in on lap. Benetton and Schumacher fined $25,000 for breach of sporting regulations at the British race
July 26, 1994 - At a FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting, Schumacher has the six points he earned at the British Grand Prix taken away from him, and is given a two race ban to be served immediately. Benetton were fined $500,000 for ignoring the Stewards at the British race and $100,000 for not sending copies of their engine management system when requested. Benetton and Schumacher immediately appealed the fines and race ban imposed on them

For starters

That's all very interesting, but doesn't answer my question. It also appears more of an indictment of team rather than the man himself.

I asked you to substantiate the following :

It was he who thought the need to cheat,
because he did not feel confident of his own skills.

Now, unless you are MS, or MS has stated publicly that he didn't feel confident enough to win a GP or championship then I really don't understand why you would make such an assumption.

Of course it's assumption that I and no doubt others have made!
Based on some of the tactics he has used whilst racing.
I ain't inside his head but be honest, he's by far from squeeky.
To win at all cost and that includes some dirty tricks and that is a judgement I have made by what I have seen of his career, no doubt he's a very very good F1 driver but sportmanship is not his fortee.
Why would someone do some of the things he has done if not to seek an unfair advantage.
Team tactics or no team tactics he knows the rules.

So you admit your statement has no basis, and is merely conjecture on your part.

Stating that a 7 time World Champion wasn't confident of winning a GP or Championship is ridiculous.

And please don't tell me about team orders and cheating. Do you remember Lewis' recent indiscretion? He was following team orders. Is Lewis Hamilton an unsportsmanlike F1 driver? In fact, I am not aware of any F1 driver who hasn't broken the rules either following team orders or taken it upon themselves to do so. Even Mr Nice Guy Rubens Barricello has been involved in some very questionable incidents whilst following team orders.
