The dust from the stone was the reason most stone masons had big moustaches and beards, to act as filters.
 
Agreed, but that was natural stone and these aussies were working with engineered stone. I appreciate they should have been aware in the present day H&S regime, but obviously they didnt put 2 and 2 together.

Relevant with the amount of people having these types of worktops fitted.
 
We bought our Quartz worktop direct from the place that cuts them. It was based on a farm off the lanes near us. When we visited, we should have worn wellies - the whole yard was covered in dust and it was billowing out of the workshops. The guvnor who came outside and showed us some samples looked like he had been flour bombed. I remember thinking that that dust can’t be any good for him.

My local quartz suppliers workshop looks like a car wash, everything is worked soaking wet, only saw white slurry where dust was washed away.
