Scratch marks on glass

Hello,
I have a large sliding dbl glazed patio door that has a small (8 inch) area that has been scratched. The scratches are not deep but are still very noticeable. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to remove or minimize them?

When I worked in a TV manufacturing plant, we used jewellers rouge to remove minor scratches in the tube glass. The scratch was completely polished out and the sets were sold as new.

I used to work with people who had to drive vehicles and one of the old hands swore that the best thing for getting rid of small scratches on windscreens was Vim or Ajax powder, with plenty of water and using a small circular motion all across the affected area - I suppose anything should be tested in a corner.
