Do you think graphics card is dying? View media item 47176
If the graphic card is dying then it would display the exact same image if you connected a monitor to the laptop, try it!!
The invertor is a common screen part that sometimes needs replacing but its a bit of a "suck an see" moment!!
Hardware is very easy to diagnose as long as you are able to swap out each component with a working one and a process of elimination will eventually determine what is wrong!!
That looks like some kind of graphics card problem. You could maybe download the latest driver for the graphics card and uninstall the old one and install the new one?

If you don't have much luck with drivers then try alternative screen plugged into the laptop. If that looks OK but the laptop screen is still looking like that then you may have a faulty screen or ribbon connector. The connector is inside but can can damaged or unseated if the screen is bent way back below the keyboard or dropped!
