Hi,I've got a garden wall to repaint it tends to get damp at the bottom is there something I could seal the wall with before painting to stop this, the other side of the wall isn't painted ,it's brick by the way not rendered.any advice would be great.thanks
Unlikely to fully solve the issue as garden walls tend not to have any dampcourse. This allows moisture in the ground to wick up through the pointing. Painting with anything will eventually result in it bubbling and flaking off, if this is the situation. If the wall is only subject to weather, and not ground moisture, good quality masonry paints have a better chance of lasting. Light colours will still end up dirty so a good option is bituminous paint, just for the bottom few courses of brick, to help stop moisture penetrating and stay cleaner for longer. Ensure the wall is totally dry before any painting, otherwise you'll get flaking in no time at all.
