Hi,

I need to put the finishing touches to a fireplace but I could do with some advice.

The linked photos should help explain the question.

I have a block work flu, a plasterboard wall and a newly fitted marble fireplace.

I know I disturbed some of the fire cement when the old one came out so that will need replacing.

I'm planning to pack the gap between the plasterboard and the marble with Rockwool.

I'm pretty sure I also need to seal the edge between the plasterboard and the marble with fire cement.

My question is, should I leave the plasterboard as it is and seal once round the gap between the flu and the plasterboard and then a second time around the gap between the plasterboard and the marble or should I knock the plasterboard out to the same size as the hole in the marble and just seal it all once?

Advice would be appreciated.

(Yes I'm going to have the fire fitted by a gas safe man, I just haven't lined him up yet).

Many thanks,

C.
