Hi all. My parents have a back boiler on a BG service contract. For years the service engineers pointed out that the vent in the floor was too small. This year we corrected the problem in time for their visit. This year they have crabbed the fact that the pipes through the wall from the boiler are not sealed and placed a warning notice on the boiler. The BG guy suggested that expanding foam could be used to seal these holes. would this be o.k? .I'm sure that I have read somewhere that it is not even suitable for use around flues. any guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks.

pipes must be sealed yes to ensure products dot go through the gaps into living areas.

what is suitable is products heat resistant upto 100 c. if pipes are able to be concreted over then use concrete, if pipes are partway up the wall and sleaved use mastic sealant but read the tube to ensure its heat resistant as some are not suitable.

Thanks for that info doyle. The BG guy dismissed using cement as it could corrode the pipes, so I am guessing that they aren't sleeved. I haven't been round to look yet am going later today. Thanks.

yes it can be corrsive so put some tape over the pipes first and that will protect it from corrosion.

You can get fire retardent spray foam, costs more but I'm sure it would handle the heat.

I wouldnt use any old tape

Denzo tape should protect the pipes if you intend to use cement motor.
