Hi. Does anybody know where to get those black metal security gates you see in porches of terraced houses? I wanted one with an integrated lock so I don't need to use a padlock, and a letterbox - or a gap to allow access to the letterbox in my front door.

I'd expected them to be easy to get hold of. I see them on every street around me. But they don't seem to stock them in places like Wickes or B&Q, unless I'm using the wrong search terms. I haven't had a lot of luck online either.

I'm looking to beef up my security after getting burgled, and I'm struggling to find a suitable gate at short notice.

That sort of thing. I did similar Google searches but couldn't find a suitable one that had an integrated lock and letterbox.

I can see lots of firms that do gates but very few options that either allow the postman access to the letterbox or include a built-in letterbox, plus include a lock rather than relying on a padlock. I see them on streets around me all the time so I'm surprised I can't find more options online.

my thoughts

new security gate says something worth nicking and they will just find the weakest point off access hidden from the street
they will often break in through a weaker point and leave via the front door and leave it open

iff the front door was the entry point make it as visible as possible from the street and beef up the locks iff the entry was via some other route beef up that route

They are made to measure to your requirements .

The postman would need very long arms if it was fitted on the outer side of a porch.

I appreciate that your door had recently been compromised but you might find that a visible house alarm and the new (more secure) front door will be enough to deter the toe rags.

At some point you need to decide how much you want your home to look like a prison. Will you put bars on the windows?

Sorry, I am not intentionally dismissing your valid concerns.

Thanks. That probably explains it. I'd imagined they were available from mainstream DIY stores because I see at least a couple on every street around me, but perhaps not. Pretty much the only firms I can find that sell them are specialist security companies.
