Hi All,

I relocated the intercom/gate entry in my flat to another wall. before disconnecting I made an accuarte diagram of the wiring, and replaced exactly when complete - but now the button that opens the gate doesn't operate. Also one of the diodes (the one that indicates when the gate is open I think) is permanently on. Any ideas on what I might have done wrong?

many thanks

well since it was ok before you touched it and now it isnt, and all you did was add /move cable, it has to be a wrong / bad connection

indeed - however I have definitly connected back the way it was, and triple checked that all connections are good. is there any way I can test each wire for continuity? I don't really understand how these units work . . . like, why are there so many wires used? seems bizarre to me that a phone only uses 2 wires and this uses eight!

thanks

What make is it ? I have some diagrams.

Phones have complex circuits to combine two way speech, dialing, ringing and ON/OFF hook onto two wires to reduce the cost of the long cables to the exchange.

For a gate / door intercom using many wires in the short cable is cheaper than the circuits at each end necessary for single pair operation.
