Has anyone else just been watching Sky Sports News?

Conference side, Cambridge United, are selling their trophy cabinet on ebay and it was being discussed live on air. At the start of the interview, 20 minutes ago, the current bid stood at £23 but 5 minutes later it had dramatically risen to £6000.

Get your unused stuff onto the telly - it seems advertising really does pay!!

Have a look at it now! Somebody must be having a laugh!!!   CAMBRIDGE TROPHY CABINET

Poor Rob Hawthorne. He was getting excited when it reached £600 live on air!

How do they get away with hoax bids?

Bids are actually legally binding. It would be good to see Ebay impose this - that would serve the morons right.

That's what I thought - I'm always wary of clicking the 'bid now' button in case I end up bidding for something I don't want.

I'm still waiting for the summons for 'committing to buy' a £1.79 washing line pulley only to be told I needed to open a specific type of account (not paypal) to buy from that seller and choosing to run away.

:D :D

I have never actually heard of ebay pursuing anyone and making them pay...although they say its legally binding.
They will probably just ban you from the site....but I am not sure.

Well, I've bought loads on ebay since that happened without any comeback so you're probably right that they don't pursue things but they don't appear to inflict bans either.

I do think they should tell you that in order to buy from particular individuals/companies you need to open a specific account before you actually 'commit to buy' though.
That'll be my defence if the summons ever does come anyway! ;)

I've been watching this item and it's the only thing I've ever seen to go DOWN in price on ebay. At one point the bidding stood at £3,100 100 but the seller was going to remove any unconfirmed bids as of 5 o'clock tonight and shortly after the price was £1700. However, as of about 7 o'clock the price had dropped to £600 odd but as of 10.40 pm the price is now £460

I doubt the owners thought the bids were genuine but I bet they are still a little disappointed - a bit like winning the lottery but then realising you'd forgotten to buy the ticket. :(

Not a bad price (at the moment) for a decent looking cabinet with some sporting history though.

I have asked if the beer fridge is included in the sale. It is not.
