I have an ultra gravity mixer shower, which has been great for 5 years, but now is annoying everyone dripping all the time! I replaced the thermostatic cartridge when we first moved in, and had zero issues.

I ordered the identical sequential Thermostatic mixer valve (SSQ50T32) which duly arrived and was fitted. initially all seemed ok...until the wife tried to use the shower and screamed! it seems the cold water flow was not working and no matter what i tried, now cold water would flow, only hot. I have removed the vale, run the water without the valve with no issues, checked for blockages and compared the original and new cartridges - all good. Except it refuses to let cold water flow. In the end i fitted the old valve again and it immediately worked fine.

Thinking it was a fault valve, i contacted the supplier, who arranged for the manufacturers to send a replacement valve directly to me - which arrived today. I have now just spent two hours getting drenched trying everything to get the damn new valve to allow cold water flow - exactly the same problem!

I can't see what the issue is, I even rotated the valve 180" and the problem followed it to the hot instead, cold water only now. I have even tried adjusting the temperature valve in the core but apart from a brief couple of spurts when I only had half the movement on the valve (so clearly way to far to adjust), nothing works.

Has anyone had this before? from looking at the valves they are both the same batch number, so wonder if there was just a faulty batch and I’ve been extremely unlucky (although i find that difficult to believe!

Any help appreciated - i'd really rather not kick off at the supplier to find i'm the idiot behind the shower lol

Strange one, how is the shower fed, is the hot from a combi boiler or UVC or gravity, if from a UVC is the cold supply from the balanced cold port on the combination valve.
Came across this, whatever it means....

"The sc50T32 is a thermostatic cartridge only , it does not shut of the water, whereas the ssq50T32 adjusts the temperature and the flow."

Also, when cold. the cartridge should be spring loaded to have full HW flow, the thermostat then starts closing off the hot port and starts opening the cold port, my very limited experience with TMVs is that I found them (generally) stuck with the HW port shut off of almost fully shut off due to the shuttle sticking.

If it looks somthing like below, pour some cold water into the mixed outlet, water should come out the hot port only, then pour very hot water into the mixed outlet, water should stop coming out the hot port but should/might come out the cold port, try that with the original old (working) thermostat as well.
