I want to Boot DBAN, but cannot seem to set up the BIOS to boot from CD Rom.

I have changed boot order to put CDRom first.

Either the drive fires up, followed by boot from HDD as normal, or the boot fails.

Dell BIOS version A0(zero)5.

Service code: 2J7310(zero)J.

Any ideas, please? Thanks.

The bios revision shouldn't make any odds to yer problem.

Does the DBAN cd work in another pc? (disk knacked or scratched/ not burnt correctly maybe?)
or is the cd rom drive playing up?. can you play a music cd in the drive?

I've had the latter problem before with the mother in law's dell pc (similar vintage to the one your service tag shows), took a little while to come to the conclusion the drive was faulty.

Just off topic slightly, never tried DBAN before. i usually use Hiren's boot cd which has a few programs for clearing hdd's as well as general recovery/file system tools etc. It's a handy cd to keep for getting yerself out of tight spots.

Thanks.I've just had a look at that. DBAN is on Hiren's Boot CD.
