setting over artex:
just a couple of questions for you helpful lot out there . just been to look at a job today,it is all a result of earthquake damage. the thing is every wall and ceiling is artex .  :!: in certain areas the artex is blown much the same as plaster but with added flakyness .now normally i'm cool with that but as this is flakey i know it could be hit or miss going over it but only had good results in past. is there a product on the market that will cure the flaking and not affect the bond or is it a case of stabilize and unibond' as it would be a right royal pain if it goes none of the the options above. cheers people :D

It's always best to take off any loose/flaky artex etc on a wall/ceiling and get back to a sound foundation. If you just chance skimming over it and the old artex/plaster underneath comes loose, it's too late then.

Roughcaster.

Also if taking off artex check when it was done - I am told before 1988 artex had asbestos in it.

If plastering over it, make sure it is sealed at least 24hrs beforehand , other wise you may get moisture in the artex softenening it and it could peel. Use SBR, PVA(needs another coat to plaster on whne tacky) or Bondit.
