I have a dormer room with toilet and wash basin in a mid-terrace. The Saniflo macerator has stopped pumping (although it turns on) believed blocked with a babywipe and the toilet and basin cannot now be used as they overflow.

I have taken the macerator out and flushed it through but presume the motor cannot be dismantled by myself and can't think of any other reason for the blockage.

I may as well look into a proper sewage connection. The current connection is original coming up through the kitchen extension and ending above the roof a few feet below the dormer window (I presume it should have been extended above the dormer room already ?). The dormer toilet is several feet away and so the connection would have to be diagonal, taking the current top off the sewage pipe and then extending up past the toilet to the roof of the dormer.

Is this right and would it be a plumber or builder who would do this ? Also any idea how much would be a reasonable cost ?

A picture would help. However, soil stacks should terminate at least 900mm above or 600mm away from the nearest window.

Well it's certainly 600mm away from the window currently, just not above it. My real query was whether the stack can be extended up to the dormer room diagonally and is this a plumbing or building job ?

I have been looking into fixing this again (yes, still not done). I have had a plumber round today who didn't fancy the job because of the tiling issue and another I called several times seemed very unenthusiastic. It seems that it's not straightforward to plumb through the tiling and may be difficult/expensive to find someone to do it. I now have a picture - could any one comment on the issues involved or are the plumbers just avoiding hard work ? I thought that removing a few tiles and replacing some halves then sealing the gap and flashing it with something would do the trick. I really don't want a new macerator as they are so noisy.

You`re right about the "plumbers" they are all gas fitters/boiler servicers.

You`ll be lucky to find one who can do a decent job with some sheet lead a bit of plastic soil off a scaffold.
Don`t even look @ "roofers" without a serious trade check/police records
600 mm from the window ...that`s for a gas flue ... . Kevplum`s got it spot on again ;) And had the sense to leave this sinking ship over here

looking at it, it would be a major problem to get it even looking half decent.

The pipe will have to lay on the tiles at some point, to get it back to the vertical tiles.

KevPlumb is suggesting you may be able to reduce the size.

He is looking in doc H at the moment.

It's this bloody terraced housing in this country causes most of these problems.

Thanks, doitall. Do you and Kev live together then ?
