Shadow Gap Detail - Existing Wall

Hello everyone, first post here.

Is there anyway a shadow gap detail can be achieved with an existing wall? Our walls are dot and dabbed on 15mm plasterboard. I thought maybe cut away the bottom section of plasterboard but then the brick would be exposed at the bottom. Any ideas on how else this could be achieved? I don’t really want to build anything on top of the existing plasterboard.
