I've just removed an old hedge from one of my father's garden borders. Nothing else grew in this border, only hedge.
Now I see why, it is mainly clay and very heavy looking soil
The border is empty and I'll be putting in bedding plants in the spring, and perhaps a few perennials, but I want to get the soil in a better state
I'll dig in plenty of compost, but also understand sharp sand would be useful to help with drainage.
My local DIY store has bags or sharp sand at £1-40 a bag ... Is this suitable
They also have 'silver sand' whatever that is, at £3-17 a bag
Which one do I need ??
thanks !
