Shed cladding

Building a largish shed (5M x 3M) and wondering if I need thin OSB or ply all around the external frame ?

i.e. 4x2 framing uprights, then 9mm or 12mm OSB then membrane then cladding. Or can I do without the OSB ? Are there pluses/minuses apart from cost?

You only need it for strength, your run of the mill garden shed will be fine without. BTW if want a waterproof wall you would need to fit a breathable membrane to the outside of the studs, then battens then the cladding.

Not especially, but it does add strength (prevents racking) and an ideal fixing point. I fixed mine internally...

An internal lining on the studwork looks neat and is easy to clean, and you can hang shelves, hooks etc on it. You can paint it in white or light colours to make the shed brighter.

You can pack insulation behind it. The membrane or felt behind the external cladding will keep moisture and dirt out. Wooden cladding such as shiplap or featheredge is not truly weatherproof.

Could I fit the membrane to the outside of the studs and then cladding direct on to the studs? Maybe it depends on what cladding I go for but featherboard seems cheapest....
