I am looking to insulate a shed as I keep marine fish and have insualated the floor, walls, installed secondary glazing and now moving on to the roof. I plan to insulate between the supports & need advise on whats the better insulator. I was planning on using the dense foam stuff with silver backing (dont know what its called). The plan was to stick it to the roof and then board over, but then though about polystryene instead - therefore was is the best insulator? what are the benefits of both?

Polystyrene = Cheap
Kingspan/Celotex/xtratherm much pricier, much better performance.

The problem with insulating roofs (rooves? :) ) is that you need to ensure adequate ventilation for the roof timbers. You'll probably be ok if you make sure the insulation is snug against the underside of the roof, then staple polythene to the rafters, with no gaps and making sure any joins are taped up. This is a 'warm roof' of sorts, no ventilation required but external roof covering must be watertight, and the polythene should really be extended all the way down to the floor.
Cover with plasterboard/hardboard for appearance and to prevent tears. With the room now airtight, you will need to introduce some other ventilation. A vent in the door might do it.
