hi,

just wondering if anyone knows of an mobile phone app or windows software that can show you how best to use a sheet of material.

For example if I wanted to make shelves of 600x800 and some at 300x200 and one at 1000x100 I'd like to be able to put that into a program and for it to tell me how many sheets of material I'd need and where to cut it. and I guess adding my cutting waste thickness too.

I'm assuming someone somewhere uses such a thing? I'm getting fed up of scrawling on bits of paper tying to figure these things out.

the first thing is to make them 3mm smaller
a sheet is 1220x2440=2977 or as near as damb it 3sqmetre
add all the sizes together and that will tell you the minim sheets

perfect. thank you timbo.

hey bigall why make them 3mm smaller? I like your idea, can't believe I didn't think of it. but I would assume 3mm bigger.

mmm think a bit off a wind up:D
saw blade thickness
now in your instance because you are using imperial sized material for metric sizes you have the blade thickness spare but people often forget about the blade thickness and after say 5 cuts you can be as much as 16mm short

ah yes I think I follow you. since learning about the blade thickness I do try to include it in my estimates.
