Hi all,
I am going to have my loft reinsulated and the central area over boarded by a professional company. They also offer shelving as an option that I'm considering. I don't need a whole load of storage but it would be useful. There are quite a few posts which say this is not a good idea, that trusses are not designed to be weight bearing and it could warp/buckle the roof structure. Is this a meaningful risk with shelf loads of say less than 10kg on each shelf? If there is a real risk to future structural damage I'd probably avoid but I'm surprised companies are offering the product if it is this risky.
If I do go ahead I was thinking of having the shelving down one side only. Is this also a bad idea? Should the shelves be shared across each side instead?
I've included some pics of the shelving system the company use and a picture of one side of my loft in case it helps. House was built in 1996.
