Shelving for kitchen

This may seem like a silly question, but we're getting some shelving cut from our wooden kitchen worktop material for shelving on the wall. We want these to be ~6-8" deep, and are planning on getting some heavy duty iron brackets to hold them.

What size brackets would you get relative to the depth of the wooden shelving unit?

Not too big, but not too small
But honestly, it sounds as if you want it to be a statement piece with the iron brackets, so be bold and go for something bigger.
Mock up the shelf with some cardboard and see what looks best.

Seems like a good idea. Because worktop material is fairly thick (30 to 40mm in general) your brackets will probably need to be fairly chunky to compliment the shelves. Personally I'd think in terms of cast iron/cast aluminium or timber gallows brackets mounted onto vertical timber battens fixed to the wall. On narrow shelves like these I'd say that bracket depth should be 1 to 1-1/2 inches less than the shelves, no more
