How do you stop them coming undone? I have some new shoes with round cord (not flat) laces, and they keep coming undon

Also got some slippers with the leather strip laces that do the same.

Is there a trick to it? It happens even if I use a double-knot

I don't have a problem with them coming undone too much but what does p me off is that they all seem to snap a week after I've put my new boots on

As a kid, my shoelaces were always coming undone (seem to recall a lot of them being the round shiny type) and my friends father said it was because I was tying them the wrong way round and using a type of slip knot. He showed me how to tie them the right way (took ages to change the habit) and now, whatever the type, they never seem to come undone. Perhaps you are doing the same.

Just done a quick search and found THIS which describes the problem/solution a bit better.

 I already tie a reef, not a granny, so it can't be that

Perhaps I will try his "secure" knot

stop worrying, you're getting to the age where all your shoes will be velcro, or slip ons !!! ;)

or employ Price Charles valet ...... he will iron you shoe laces for you

Yes.....but I did check it out on the net and apparently its true ......

Always found the round type are not that good, I think some of them have the sort of wax polish on them which I think is causing it to come undone(?) I normally change a difference type of shoe laces to overcome it.

Actually the tip is to put polish on the shoe lace get a dollop on a duster or whatever and pull the laces through and leave overnight, then get a clean rag and pull through.
Works for me.
