Shorten pendant light wire

Hello all - thank you for responses in advance.

I have a standard hanging pendant light which I need to shorten so that the light clears the door.

Would I be okay to store the excess wire in the rose, or should i really be shortening the wire?

For avoidance of doubt, the electrics will be off (NOT just the light switch) when performing this work.

Yes, if physically possible.

There might be a grip on the cable you can just slide down or

you can use cable ties.

Perhaps with some fancy roses it's possible, but with most normal roses I've seen I don't think there is any reasonable way to support excess wire, nor any space for it.

If it's only a standard pendant, just shorten the thing. Trying to stuff the excess flex into the rose will only result in it falling out eventually.

I'll give a little extra to this, the physical space inside a ceiling rose is small, in many cases it has pretty much been filled with the fixed wiring and fitting in an inch or two of round flex may not be possible.
If there is space then I agree. If there is an existing grip it may possibly slide down the cable but they often break, otherwise cable ties will do it.
Most likely it will be down to shortening the cable, however make sure you don't try to go too far as there is a limit dictated by the bulk of the cover.

I used to often loop the wire round in the base to help support slightly heavier shades, sometimes it causes the thicker flexes to curve where it leaves the rose and can look a bit rough with a lighter shade.
That said, modern roses do seem smaller so theres a limit what you can pack in.

Yes but that little bend soon settles and in any case looks better than a knot between the rose and bulb holder.
