Hi, I have had my back boiler disconnected and replaced with a combi which has a flue going through the wall.

I have a bit of damp at the top of the chimney in the loft, I'm wondering if the chimney should be capped now?

If so it it something I can do myself?

Thanks

If you decide to cap it make sure there is some ventilation built in as the damp might get worse. You can do it yourself but hire scaffolding.

Get it inspected - it should have a suitable pot/terminal regardless - that can be DIY'd but be careful if thinking about climbing about on a roof/chimney

If it's damp from the rain entering dues to no pot etc then that's easily fixable, if it's not, i.e. a render/pointing/flashing issue - then unless you are very competent at those types of jobs @ height then it'll really need an experienced/qualified trade in to sort it out.

Just had a very similar experience, damp around a redundant chimney after we had an old floor-standing cast iron boiler replaced with a combi.

We had a guy take a look at it and the whole chimney was rotten, we had it removed and tiled-over.
It was not much more than a half a day's work for two guys, much happier now.
