When I was buying a soil to drain adapter in the plumbers merchants, the guy next to me (a plumber) told me that I should put a wdoge of silicon sealant around the fins of the adapter to get a better seal. Is that a good idea?
If the socket is nice and clean and dry then it shouldn't be needed. If it's rough and patchy then as long as it's dry, then some silicon isn't a bad idea.
