Hi Everyone
I've heard it said that shower cabins should only be fitted on a solid floor - concrete for example. Apparently there have been problems with 'plumbing flexion' (if that's the right term) leading to leaks due to the movement of the entire cabin on flexible flooring. Our elderly neighbour has her heart set on one of these cabins but she does live in a new build with the standard flooring sheets fitted. Can anyone advise please?

Hi, not sure what you mean by shower cabin. There are a number of complete shower pods available on the market which then have a shower door fitted onto them. You can fit any type of shower pod, cubicle or try to a suspended floor. The floor may require some strengthening but this is not normally the case for a shower tray or shower pod. The full weight of the shower will not sit completely on the floor because it is also screwed to the tiled walls. Suspended floors can settle over time and this can crack grout lines and tear the silicone sealant around the shower tray and base of the shower door. This issue can be prevented in most cases by placing weight in the shower tray when the sealant is applied. If your neighbour is using a one piece shower pod these problems cannot occur.
