My shower (pic) runs off the CH/HW supply its not electric.

The left hand knob is the on/off and it's busted. Just goes round and round and round ...

I don't want to change the upright post that holds the shower head as I don't want to drill or fill holes in ceramic tiles.

Questions:

1. Do I have to buy the whole kit or can I just buy the bar that does the on/off and temp?

2. If I buy a bar like in the pic, are the sizes universal?

3. Is this something a homeowner can do herself or do I need a plumber?

3a. How much should I plumber charge me for this?

Thanking you in advance.

You can just buy a new bar mixer valve from somewhere like Screwfix. Simple job to fit. Shut off the water supplies then undo the two mounting nuts. Pipe centres are standard. A plumber should easily be able to do it for their minimum charge.

Measure the pipe centres before buying the new mixer. (y)
