Hi,
I'm currently in the easy phase of repairing a shower that had leaked behind the tiles (the phase where I sit and wait for everything to dry out), and I'm trying to decide what to do next.
The previous tiles had normal hardwood plywood behind them and it was all heavily water damaged and has been junked. The shower currently looks like the image below. Bare studs, some of which are damaged or in the case of the bottom of the left hand wall, completely removed (there is no real weight on this wall, so there's no structural concern). I am planning to repair the studs by screwing additional lengths of the same dimension material to the side of them, running far enough up the wall to pass the damaged sections.
I have not yet decided whether to tile the shower or to go the shower panel route and I was wondering, if I were to go with the panels, do I need to board this over or can you mount the panels directly to the studs? In case the photo's not clear, the studs run right up to the shower tray so the next layer of material will overlap the tray.
If it is necessary to board it over, what's the cheapest material that would be suitable? Ideally I'd save money here so I can buy higher quality panels. The material that came off was 12mm thick, in case that's relevant.
