Hi all

I’ve come to change my shower pull cord due to a snapped string. On removing the cover, I’ve come across this cluster of wires.

Should there be this many, or is this a dangerous electric supply?

Many thanks, Paul.

There is a random new colours twin and earth of a small ish size picking up live and unswitched live. It could well be indicative of something not quite right, I'd be tempted to make the ends safe in connector blocks and then see what doesn't work when you have changed the isolator.

I have a nasty feeling that what doesn't work, may well be a timer fan with the neutral returning through the lighting circuit.

If you have access above you could try tracing the smaller twin and earth that comes out of there and see where it goes

I think I see a green/yellow wire going into the N side of the switch?

I suspect a timer fan may have been fitted with a flex - Brown to permanent L, Blue to switched L and Green/Yellow to N

Hi all

Yes there is a fan that is permanently on when the switch is on, this must be the case!

Is this wiring unsafe, or common for this sort of switch with a fan connected?

Many thanks

Is this a green/yellow in with the neutral supply?

If so I imagine it is a 3 core flex supplying a fan, may be a twin and earth but somehow it feels like a flex.

... is this a dangerous electric supply?

My first guess is it doesn't comply with regs or manufacturers instructions. Are you able to get above there and follow the cable?

Oh wow.
I wrote that post on Friday afternoon in a hotel room while Mrs Sunray spent a few hours (or so it felt) 'freshening-up' after the 6 hour drive. Last night was the next time I opened the PC and then it continued it's upload in the background. Apologies for the double info but I'll leave as is.
