I am replacing the shower in our upstairs bathroom and am thinking about having a shower pump feeding a mixer valve. We have a gravity fed system with the header tank directly above where the shower head will be. The distance from the bottom of the tank to the head will be about 2 ft.
We are a family of 4 who all work variable shift patterns, so the shower could be running from as early as 05.00 in the morning.
My concern is the noise from the shower pump waking the rest of the family.
Does anybody have any advice on where best to place the pump, and any ways to cut the noise down to a minimum. is it ok to box in and insulate the pump, or will this make it overheat.

Pump next to cylinder in the air-in cupboard, don't cover or box in as it will over heat.

Just close the cupboard door and leave the pump only for the shower.

Install an ST Monsoon, quieter than most but not cheap & you will still hear both it & the water rush when it kicks in. Unless you live in a large house & spend £0000, there is no such thing a silent power shower; if you don’t want any noise, stick with gravity & install a downstairs shower or raise the loft tank another 4 feet or so.

As already stated, best place for the pump is next to the bottom of the HW cylinder but certainly not more than 5m away using 22mm feeds or 3m with 15mm feeds or it won't work very well & don't box it in or try & soudproof it, it won't last five minutes.
