I am going to redo the silicone between the bottom of my aluminium shower cubicle and the white shower tray. I just have a couple of questions:
The sealant is currently clear but I have seen instances where white has been used. What do people generally prefer? I want to use one of the plastic silicone tools to get a good even bead. However, as with most shower metalwork, the bottom rail is not flat but rounded. Will this pose a problem if I use a tool, ie, will the siicone end up half way up the rail?

I use a mix of masking tape and tool to apply silicone .
Masking tape along the bumpy surface then tool along.
Pull tape.
See what it looks like. Decided if a final run with finger would be better or accept it and leave to dry.
Again on the aluminium. You can mask or not mask before you tool along.
You can also do one side at a time and allow to dry before continuing...
Practice. Think about it. You will get better and I'm sure it will look good.
