If you look anywhere to see what size shower screen is best for a certain size tray everywhere says if you have a 1700 long tray you need a 1700 screen, which I dispute as I would not be able to get in the shower if the screen was as long as the tray. So my question is, what size screen for a 1700 tray... thanks in advance

Depends if you are talking a fully enclosed shower with opening door or a walk-in / wetroom style of shower with an open doorway to it.
Ours is nominally 1100mm with a 200 mm folding strip at the entrance of our nominally 1700 x 800 mm walk in tray. "Wetroom" style screen. Gives a decent doorway opening size even with the grab rail just outside.
