Shower tray built base

If building a base for a shower tray is it usually 4x2 timbre that is needed then wbp ply?

3 X 2 is sufficient with 18 wbp. Also helps keep the tray lower. Take into account height of your trap when setting height and run of waste pipe. Easier to build a solid base around the pipe run than cut afterwards and potentially weaken the base.

It's a high as it needs to be to cater for the waste and, waste run length dependent, the fall. Using an 18mm WBP ply or OSB3 top provides plenty of support. Just remember to provide support in the middle too not just on the outside edge
