I'm looking at parts for a shower room I'm fitting.

I've narrowed my choice of shower tray down to two. One of them is advertised as an "acrylic capped ABS" and the other as "acrylic capped polymer stone resin".

I know from experience that acrylic baths can vary hugely in their sturdyness (I've experienced cheap DIY store baths that noticeable flex when moving about them in the shower) and assume this is unlikely to be an issue with a shower tray which will be low profile and bedded on a concrete floor anyway.

However, I would still like to buy the better of the two if there is a marked difference between ABS and a polymer stone resin. Or are these essentially the same thing but by different names?

Personally I'd go for the stone resin tray - of a good make.
Set on a nice level floor so there's no point loading, bedded down well.
I've used several Mira Flight trays - bedded on silicone ( reps recommendation) and have had no problems at all to date.
If I need to raise them it's a strong timber plinth rather than upstands with thick OSB on top.
Allow for drain access if you can, and use solvent weld fittings.
Perfect levelling is necessary for tiling or whatever.
Good luck with your project!
John :)
