Excuse the question, because I think it's probably going to be a stupid one.

We've moved into a new end-of terrace with a back boiler in the front room. The heating works just fine, but the hot water is becoming a hazard - especially now the weather's warmer (or so it seems).

My wife jogged me filling the sink and Ive been cursing for days. I've tried turning down the thermostat on the boiler, but that made little difference to the how water whilst crippling the rads.

The boiler is a New World Stowaway gas-fired piece controlled by a Potterton timer which has seperate switches for HW and heating. I can't find any independent thermostat for the hot water on either the boiler or the hot water cylinder. Water pump is a Grundfos Selectric with some variable speed switch - currently set to max.

Any ideas how I can get this under control?

Thanks
MCD

Yes fit a thermostat to the hot water cylinder and make sure the immersion element is not turned on this may have a faulty stat too. I am surprised that no cylinder stat is fitted though.

Backboiler will no doubt be plumbed for gravity HW and pumped CH.

The timer will not allow CH selection by itself (HW will also be selected)

If that is the case, reduce the setting on the boiler thermostat to 3 or 2.
